1. Why did you decide to become and Exbo member?
I believe that the Junior Enterprise movement in general is all about impact – the one that we have on our peers, on the environment around us, and especially on ourselves. After several years in the Network, it simply seemed like the natural and right thing to do: to challenge myself to the right end. I never thought twice, never doubted. I am now often surprised how young people do not feel confident enough in their ability to influence and make impact – as Junior Entrepreneurs we can do anything, and it is even further visible when you are in the ExBo.
2. Which were your expectations from this experience?
I expected the experience to be super-challenging, yet super-exciting. But the reality exceeded my expectations – it turned out to be an experience of self-discovery, whereby you identify your own limits, tolerances, skills, and strengths. When I moved to Brussels, I expected to see a Network of crazy committed students, I ended up in an environment of brilliant young professionals and over-achievers. I expected to gain some knowledge in certain areas, particularly strategic management and politics, I ended up having a 360-overview of a life of an organisation and the reality of the European Union and its impact. I expected to join a team of young colleagues, as knowledgeable and committed as myself, I ended up being in a team with amazing friends, from whom I learnt and gained a lot. I can surely say that it was a great year for all of us!
3. Tell us 3 goals that your team achieved
It is correct that the time is approaching to start summing up the year and see what went well and what could be improved. Particularly, at our team, we are very proud of many of the things that we did, so having to identify 3 of them would be tough, but yet – let’s try.
Firstly, it was our goal to integrate our Network, and make the Juniors interact with each other. We launched a brand new website, the Gazette (our newsletter), a Facebook page, and of course-the JENet platform; we made sure there was plenty of attractive info available – sexy advertising, exchange sessions, knowledge-sharing. Moreover, we opened the Network to new markets, and the admission of JADE Romania was the greatest example of this development.
Secondly, we wanted to make the Concept more and more visible on European level, in order to show that the Junior Entrepreneurs can have an impact on what is happening across the continent in fields of entrepreneurship and higher education. Through working with the EU, World Bank, UNESCO and World Economic Forum, we managed to send the message of importance that comes from our Movement, and at the end were showcased as best practice example in EU 2020.
Finally, a major outcome of our year: our successors: Lorenzo, Tzoanna and Michael, as well as their Brazilian Ambassadors (Alessandro, Felipe, Gustavo, Andre, Renata and Henrique). Let us not forget that what one JADE Board does in their year, will only show off in the year after. They are excited and committed, have great ideas, strive for the best, and we are sure that next year will be yet another awesome JADE year!
4. After this experience, what would you like to me remembered for?
Our team had an amazing year, and we hope that each and every Junior Entrepreneur will be left with a little good memory of us. The meetings and workshops, the assemblies and projects – this was our way to show that we are proud to be a part of this great Movement.
However, if we were to showcase one memory of those, then I hope it will be the One Big Team concept of I AM JADE – the message that we tried to send across the Network during the year. Our Confederations and Junior Entrepreneurs belong to something great – something big and impactful, and we would like to see this confidence in your eyes, when you talk to your University, when going to client meetings, when leading your teams: being a Junior Entrepreneur is what makes you elite, makes you different, makes you stand out from the crowd. So, as a final message: be proud to be JADE!
